Arts Santa Monica
28 May-22 June 2015
Opening Thursday 28 May 20h
At the beginning of ‘X-VILLE’ a young woman tells us: “Our time is a time of utopias. There are many: the American ‘Way of Life’, Communism or Human Rights. They all have the capacity to mobilize the masses”. The film is inspired by various texts by philosopher and utopian architect Yona Friedman, specifically by his book, ‘Realizable Utopias’ (1974), a work that promotes alternative forms of organizing big cities, as collective answers to a dissatisfaction. Colomer’s film is constructed through collective situations, recreating images of alternative ways of organisation for the Metropolis.
Jordi Colomer is the winner of the first edition of the production prize for a video-based work launched by LOOP , la Xarxa de Centres i Espais d’Arts Visuals de Catalunya and Arts Santa Mònica. In LOOP Barcelona 2015 , the artist is premiering his work ‘X-VILLE’ on Thursday 28 May 20h at Arts Santa Mònica.
