SCREENING WORK IN PROGRESS CO-OP CITY

BRONX TALKS: SCREENING BY JORDI COLOMER

Friday December 17th, 2010, 6-8 PM
2nd Floor North Wing
Admission Free

Introduced by Christian Viveros-Faune, Catalan artist Jordi Colomer will screen 2 short films, Avenida Ixtapaluca (houses for mexico) (Mexico City, 2009) and Co-Op City (New York City, 2010) accompanied by a festive reception hosted by The Bronx Museum of the Arts.

The work of Jordi Colomer (Barcelona, 1962) uses video as his main medium to reflect on the relationships between sculptural and performance art, and theatre and architecture. These two videos explore, through minimal actions, the movement of the human body within repetitive and almost-hermetic urban conditions. In both cases these are serial peripheral neighbourhoods, even if the territorial and architectural differences between them are immediately obvious. In Co-Op City, created by Colomer while in residence at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, a character that could be any illegal Mexican immigrant cycles across the well-known Bronx estates and does his deliveries, riding around towers and through gardens.
